Metadata of electronic data can give valuable insights which would not have been noted from the content of the document itself. Such document metadata can include when the file was created, modified, accessed or deleted, or the filename, author, how many times the document was modified and more.
While metadata may provide a wealth of knowledge, it is very susceptible to modification therefore its use would not be fully relied upon.
